Hi Anastasia, how long have you been shooting and what first inspired you to pick up the camera?
I’ve been shooting for just about a year and a half. With about eight years of modelling, photo editing and just being around different kinds of production, it seems amazing to me that I didn’t pick up the camera sooner but I always thought that there were too many photographers already. I am very glad I became one of the many though. Photography has become key to understanding my own self.

You are both a model and a photographer; have your modelling experiences shaped the way you approach your photography?
Through modelling, I learned a lot about what it takes to create a good image; the composition, the light and shadows, the model’s pose, the concept… I was lucky to collaborate with some incredible artists and watch their process. That said, I think that my photography affected my modelling even more; when I model, I usually accommodate another person’s vision but, when I photograph, I fully take charge. Taking charge is crucial for growing as an artist, for shaping up your aesthetics, your values, and it affects every part of your life.

You also have a beautiful gallery of self portraits; tell us a little bit about how you first started this series and what your motivations were?
I started photographing myself when I went traveling around the Mediterranean by myself. I wanted to create and had no models around me – also I wanted to document my adventures and experiences. Self portraiture was a natural thing. I still take self portraits but rarely, mostly when I have an idea that I am itching to try right this moment and there is no one else around.

How would you define your personal style?
I am fascinated by human emotions and sensibilities. Transcendence. I like dreamy surreal sets and a state of quiet meditative contemplation.

What projects are you working on at the moment?
One ongoing project – the process of exploration, full of frustration and dissatisfaction, but incredibly rewarding too. I’d like to try different medias in the future – painting and video.
